To whom it may concern,

On April 16, 2013, Guy Gruters spoke as the keynote speaker at the Reliable Plant Conference and Exhibition. There were more than 1,400 attendees and 100 companies present from 26 nations. The annual event was held at the Greater Columbus Convention Center in downtown Columbus, Ohio, and sponsored by many industry-leading companies, including Shell Lubricants.

Guy spoke on Teamwork and Leadership and did a wonderful job. His presentation was very relevant to this subject. All attendees enjoyed it and received much wisdom and inspiration from his testimony of being in tough conditions and still obeying the leader and getting things done.

Guy’s presentation brought tears to many eyes because he spoke of what he and other soldiers went through so that our country could remain free. His analogies and comparisons were very well understood. Anyone in his shoes would have had a hard time living, much less participating on a team established in the Communist prison camp.

Guy gave examples of heroic leadership that were truly inspiring and worthy of praise. I walked away a better leader and team player than I was before his presentation and am sure all those who heard his speech benefited in the same way. I would gladly attend his presentation again and would recommend it to any company or organization.

Learn how I learned to forgive my captors, who killed my friend, beat and tortured me

         

... A storm of harsh treatment followed quickly. My captors beat me, humiliated me, spit on me. They tortured me. They killed my friend for no reason. They hardly fed us. They treated us worse than dogs. Bugs and worms and rats were everywhere. It was hell on earth and I was living in it... 

No one can imagine what it was like to shiver from cold, or to sweat from heat for days on end. No one can imagine being kicked and beaten and hung by ropes. No one can imagine the filth and the lack of medical care. Six out of every seven of us died, and I was ready to go at any moment...

Hello, Guy and Sandy,

I have been wanting to contact you for weeks to thank you for all you did to help us present another very impressive Community Prayer Breakfast here in Brigantine, New Jersey. When I went to the Veteran's Cemetery to visit my Dad and also attended a Veteran's Day ceremony here in Brigantine last weekend, they served as reminders that I need to let you know how appreciative we all are here in Brigantine over having met you folks.

Speaking Friday evening to the Men Of Honor Ministries from western Pennsylvania was above and beyond what we expected and those who attended that evening were extremely grateful. Your presentation at our Saturday morning Prayer Breakfast was a message that I don't believe the attendees will forget for a long time.

I had the opportunity of reading your book, "Locked Up With God". Your words proved again how grateful this nation must be for the men and women who step up to protect us.  It is a shame that sometimes your service and your sacrifice are taken for granted. Thank you for your service to both God and Country. You have inspired many people with your message and I hope that you can continue to present that message for many more years.

I have known Guy Gruters for many years. We both graduated from the U.S. Air Force Academy in the early 1960s, flew F-100s in Vietnam and served in the same unit as Misty FACs. By the time I got to the unit Guy had already been shot down twice and captured after his second ejection over North Vietnam, but his exploits were legend. After Vietnam we took different paths. I made a career of the Air Force. Guy rejoined his family and became a motivational speaker and writer, dedicated to passing on the lessons he learned as a fighter pilot and POW to the younger generation.

He is good at what he does. I highly recommend his book to anyone who wants to improve their life and become a better person, a better leader, a better family man and a better soldier, sailor, Marine or Airman.

Your combination of stories about flying the O-1 and the F-100 fighter aircraft in combat as a Forward Air Controller was one of a kind. We realize that if you could make it through what you made it through, then we can carry on with our everyday flying in happiness and security.

 

I particularly liked how you responded to all the technical questions about flying both during the dinner, your talk and late into the night. Guy's wife, Sandy, waited for Guy for the six years he was in Vietnam.

  

 

Welcome home, Dad!

  

Sandy bore two children before Vietnam and five more after Guy's return. Sandy speaks on her experience as the wife of a military officer, POW, business professional, airline pilot and mother of a large family under difficult conditions. For example, besides the POW experience, Guy and Sandy have moved more than 25 times in their more than 45 years of married life. Generally, Sandy will normally only travel with Guy to his talks if the distance is not too great. However, if a talk by Sandy is also desired for the audience or the wives or families, then Sandy can make extended trips as well. For example, Guy and Sandy traveled to Okinawa for a week's worth of talks to various military audiences, including military wives' groups. This series was for the week leading up to POW/MIA day.

Guy has been a motivational speaker for numerous military audiences, businesses, conferences, colleges, high schools, elementary schools, clubs, civic audiences (for example, during patriotic holiday celebrations), almost any group imaginable.
